City Weekend

The City Weekend aims to equip us to serve God at work and at home through excellent Bible teaching. It is also a weekend away from the busyness of London and a chance to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Click here for a promo video.

What people are saying...

‘Not sure I've ever been on such a friendly weekend away!’ [a first-timer]

‘I feel strengthened and encouraged [in sharing the gospel] … on Monday morning, while reading my Bible on the train and noticing a lady opposite looking, I opened a conversation with her and gave a her a tract, which at the end of the journey she asked if she could keep.’

‘High standard of food and in plenteous quantities.’

‘In every regard the weekend was amazing. [We have been] enthused to share the Gospel and we pray that there will be fruit from this new wave of excitement.’

‘The venue and accomodation were excellent.’

‘Outstanding teaching … exceeded expectations: my son wants to come on the summer school already.’

‘First-rate teaching programme; good food; the children had a lovely time; thank you for making us so welcome at the weekend!’

‘As it was the first time we had been to an event like this as a family, we were all slightly nervous before arriving, but everyone soon put us at ease, and we were able to relax, learn and enjoy ourselves.’

‘It was a positive weekend, which really helped us to grow as a family, so thank you to everyone who was involved in organising, teaching and helping at the weekend.’

‘When's the next one? [Our daughter] had such an amazing time, so much so she cried and cried when we left.’

We always have a mix of people connected with the City – singles, married, a range of ages, etc. While the adults meet during the morning, the children and teenagers are looked after and given first-class Bible teaching by the St Helen's youth and children's ministry team.

In 2017 we return to Sunningdale Park, set in over 65 acres of landscaped gardens and natural woodland – easily accessible from the M3 and M4 and just five minutes from Sunningdale Station, with services to London. Go here for more on the venue.

We shall be looking at the New Testament book of 2 Peter, being taught by William Taylor, the rector of St Helen's.

William says, ‘“May I remind you…” – Peter’s second letter is written to groups of Christians who are already “established in the truth”. But Peter wants more for them. He wants them to “grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus”, to “be diligent” and he wants to “stir (them) up by way of reminder”. Our City Partners’ weekend away will be spending time with the great apostle, not simply “jogging” our memory but “jolting” it! The result he hopes to achieve in us will be real Christian growth.’
