Meet the Team
Central to City Ministry is the conviction that it is Christians in the City – not church staff – that are key to the advance of the Gospel. We, on the City team, see ourselves as servants – of the Lord Jesus, of his gospel, and of his people – whose role is to facilitate and support ordinary Christians' gospel ministry in the Square Mile.
William Taylor, Rector of St. Helen's
After being converted and having a spell in the Army, William became a full-time Bible teacher, first in Bromley and, since 1995, at St Helen's. William and Janet, his wife, have three children.
Wes Illingsworth, Leader – City Team
Wes loves encouraging City people to live and speak for Jesus. Married to Rose, God got Wes started through hearing the Gospel from his parents and his Grandad's Welsh chapel. Previous jobs include care work, marketing, the charity sector and the Home Office.
Richard has worked in insurance for many years, and now spends half his time introducing fellow senior executives to what the Bible actually says. Go to The Word One-to-One to see what has been so helpful for so many.
Alan Bright – Administrator
Alan wants to see people (including himself) living and speaking for Jesus in their everyday lives, and is pleased to be using his administrative gifts to help St Helen's equip them to do this. He first came to St Helen's in 1981, as a student, and joined the staff in 2010 after 25 years working in the City. Alan works part-time at St Helen's; his other work includes chess coaching.
Will used to work with university students in Durham and now helps to equip workers to live and speak for Jesus across the City. He is particularly involved in sharing Jesus Christ with French-speakers from both the City and across London.
Hannah studied law in London but then decided to train and work as a Bible teacher, rather than as a barrister. She loves teaching the Bible to women in the City to equip them to live and speak for Jesus in their offices. She works part-time for the City team.
James joined the team in 2015, and loves helping men in the City to know God better through the Bible. He is married to Hannah (above) and on days off they enjoy a good country walk.
Before joining the team in 2010, Olly worked as a forensic accountant, specialising in law and insurance. Married to Bethan, with three daughters, he is excited about the opportunities the City provides for people to know and live for Jesus.
Claire is excited to be back on the City Team after a break of 14 years and glad to see that while the City has changed in that time, the job of teaching the Bible and proclaiming Jesus to City Women is the same. Claire and her husband Brian have four children.
